Milwaukee LGBT Festival

November 2-12, 2018  / Milwaukee, WI / uwm.edu/lgbtfilmfestival

With open and closing night screenings at the historic Oriental Theatre (which, incidentally, holds the record for longest consecutive Rocky Horror Picture Show running), this fest has been around for over three decades, showcasing the best in LGBT cinema from narratives, to docs, and more experimental video pieces. Swag bags often include personalized pieces like a comfy hoodie a panelist swears “seemed to be something they brought from a store.” Presented by the film department of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, this long-running fest recognizes the impact that can be formed from year-round programming. It collaborates on Community Frames, a local initiative “that aims to celebrate the form of film and highlight it in a gallery setting while exploring themes of community, identity, and voice” where Wu Tsang’s 2012 documentary Wildness was presented this past summer as part of the exhibition.
